sleep, eat, and go potty

I really need friends. I went to the Relief Society broadcast on Saturday and found myself watching other women my age and thinking how fun it would be to have them as my friends. Obviously need to work on that aspect of my life and get out more. So for now, you wonderful friends that leave lovely comments on my blog, you're my sounding board.

And that's why I'm on my third post tonight. Yep, the third. Haven't chatted with anyone in a while so I simply have a lot to say. So here's the last of my thoughts tonight, promise.

I love books period, but lately I especially seek those helpful ones that address the three big battles in parenting: sleeping, eating, and the potty. Here are some good reads that were recommended to me by great moms and I want to pass them on to you.

Jane Nelson has written a number of books in this Positive Discipline series. She talks about maintaining a balance between firmness and kindness and how you don't have to make your child feel worse in order to help them do better. I want to read them all.
This book was recommended to me by a local lactation specialist in my ward. I've only read a few parts of it, but it helps answer a LOT of questions about breast feeding and producing enough for your child's needs. I've just ordered it and I'm excited to read the entire thing.
This should be the first on my list. Hands down, this has been the greatest help to me. My sister-in-law recommended this book to me and it has helped get my kids on a great sleeping schedule, which has made all the difference.
I haven't tried this one yet, but I've read a lot of great reviews about it. I'll let you know soon what I think.
Great cookbook full of creative and yummy meals. Gave me the idea to tell Hazel that mermaids love fish or Cinderella's favorite meal is ravioli. She buys it every time and will at least give it a try. Also, the "minty pea pops" are a new staple in our house. Yeah, popsicles (I just tried to spell that word three times) made with frozen peas that taste like mint chocolate chip ice cream. delicious.
This is the only book I've flipped through for help with potty training. I have to admit that we didn't do the party thing, but I did gain a lot of good tips from this book.

Any books you recommend? Please, do share.

Way interested in the potty training book. My 2 year old son just refuses to use the potty! I know he knows when he needs to go but he just says "NO I go in diaper!" ARG, so thanks for the tip :)

Janelle, I just said to Ben this weekend that I need to start talking to my friends again. It's been a crazy first month with Tal, but I think I'm about 90% normal again. We'll have to plan a play date soon. I love your posts. Keep 'em coming.

Who needs people friends when you have blog friends!? I was just telling Brad on the way to church this Sunday how fun it would be if we really were neighbors instead of pretend neighbors. We would hang out ALL the time! Anyhoo, thanks for the book reviews. A book my sister-n-law SWEARS by is Baby Wise! She gives it to EVERY pregnant woman she knows and I know I'll be getting my copy soon. Miss you!

thanks for the books! I already got the potty training book from the library and have the nursing book on hold! I am so excited to read both, so I really appreciate you posting this!

Everything I ever wanted to know about nursing, i learned from a book called "So THAT'S what they're for!" What a fantastic help that one was! When I feel like I have no adult conversation, I have a Mary Kay party! Then I always encourage each person to bring a friend (or three) and we share an hour after the sales pitch and trying things on complimenting eachothers' new looks and getting to know the new friends. Most of the time the other ladies bring their kids, and we toss them in the back yard for a little wreckreation. If you don't have a consultant, there's a special this month, you can sign up for half-price, and become your OWN consultant!

You know you can always come over to my house if you need someone to hang out with. I know Timothy would love to hang out with Hazel. I've read some of those books, and loved them. Didn't realy like the one about getting more breast milk. Sometimes your body just doesn't want to make any. Give me a call if you want to do a play date with the kids!! 435-881-8375 :)

Um, yes I have a book I would recommend, although it doesn't have much to do with eating, sleeping or going potty. . . It's 'The Chopper Caper' written by George Dorsey, Janelle's late grandfather. I mean, not to give away the plot, but there is some eating, some sleeping and some going potty in the book . . along with a part where a helicopter picks up an armored car off the freeway. It's good reading.

Janelle, I love when people give recommendations about books. I will DEFINITELY be referring to this in the future. Your little family is adorable!
