On June 5th, we celebrated Hazel's birthday with family and little girlfriends
(and a few lucky little boy friends) with a
flower fairy party.
I think I might have been a little bit more excited for this party than Hazel. That morning David took the girls on a hunt for beanbags (for our Corn Hole game) while I made these flower cupcakes and an experimental fairy birthday cake.

I found the idea for the flower cupcakes
here. They were surprisingly cooperative! Then I went out on a limb and tried this fairy birthday cake. Read about the details on my
toddler blog.
Once our friends arrived, we played some games in our backyard (thank goodness for shade). We played "Fairy, Fairy, Troll" (instead of Duck, Duck, Goose) and a couple of balloon games.

I'm so grateful for such good friends! There are so many fun kids in our ward and neighborhood; what a blessing. Really.
Then we had a small scavenger hunt for flower fairies around our yard. This was probably my favorite part of the entire party. My grandmother collects flower fairies so they brought back good memories.

And we ate candy and more candy...

And Brooklyn ate MORE candy...(these pics don't show the multiple suckers in both her hands).
Love this girl.

David challenged some of the boys to a game of Bag-O. If you've never played this game, please do come over and we'll teach it to you. David takes this game very seriously.
(Um, I believe Adam lost in this game, too. Bummer.)

We're so excited to have new neighbors next door with little ones!

What would life be like without the Clark's?

Some of our Sugar House friends made the trip; it's always so so good to see them. The bottom pic is Charlotte with Gram.

One of the young women in our area agreed to do face painting for the kids.

We set her up at this little table where the kids could get a picture.

Short story: Did I mention that time that Charlotte slipped out the front door at the Nickelcade while I was picking out flavors of Laffy Taffy with Hazel? Someone brought her in from the PARKING LOT outside. Definitely the low point of my entire existence as a mother. That was a week or so before this party where she made her break once again. Someone left the door into our backyard open and while I wasn't watching, she made her way out into our driveway. One of our guests arrived late and brought her back in.
Angels are on our side.
Geesh.
No matter how old you get, don't you still LOVE opening presents? And with little kids, the fun is too great to keep to yourself. It's a team effort.

And then it was pinata time.
This baby was made from scratch. I'm not sure I'll ever do that again (see
blog for details.)

Hazel goes first.

Then Brooklyn, then Asher.

Lucy almost gets it, but the job was finished by our neighbor, Alli.

For goodies, the kids received wands and whistles and some fairy dust.
It was a magical day.
Thank you to our friends and family who made it so.
