I am running a marathon. I set this goal after Charlotte was born and David joined in; we were going to run in the Top of Utah this September which means we had to start training in June. However, our little baby decided that she wanted to continue eating every two or three hours throughout the night which put our marathon WAY out of the picture.
So now, Charlotte is moved into another room and we're teaching her to soothe herself back to sleep. There's still bad nights when she's up every few hours and I want to pull my hair out, but I have confidence that we can get her to sleep through the night. We're going to have to face that unnerving "letting her cry" phase, but we can do it.
I am running a marathon. I'm just going to keep repeating it until it sinks into those crevices of my brain that whisper back, "Yeah, right."
Today was my first day of training. Last week I ran two days, only about a mile and a half or so just to get my body used to it again. I've run throughout middle school, high school, college, mission--up until I had Hazel. But I've always been a jogger. I'm ready to be a RUNNER.
Today was a long day. Last night I went to bed at 11pm and got up with the baby at 12am, 2:30am, and 5am. My alarm went off at 6am to run and I didn't even hear the Mexican Banda thumping through the radio on my nightstand. I didn't hear David get up, and I barely heard Lottie at 7:30am. We had a relatively mellow morning until we went to the library and had to leave early because of a pre-naptime meltdown by Hazel in the restrooms (today was her first full day in big girl princess Belle underwear by the way). The bathroom door was automatic and she wanted to close it herself. Understandable.
Got home, put them down for a nap, worked on my job until they woke up; started on dinner while wrestling with a fussy baby a toddler with paint. Went to young women's at 6:30, came home to nurse and bathe Charlotte at 7:30, went visiting teaching at 8pm, came home, changed and finally...went RUNNING. I ran two miles this time and it was probably the best part of my day because...
I'm running a marathon. In December, probably in Phoenix. I commit to you, I commit to me. Hold me to it, please.

YOU GO GIRL!!!! You can do it!! You're amazing. You're my inspiration. And I can't wait for you! What an accomplished. Wish I could do it with you. Except I'd just do the half :)
December is comming so soon. Good luck with the marathon, you'll do great and it gives you such a great sense of accomplishment. I wish I could be there at the finish line to cheer you on like you cheered me on;)
Good for you Janelle! I swear that people who run marathons are completely bonkers, but I think that's just cause I am a horrible runner. On that note, I'm going to (try) to do the Tucson Half Marathon, which is in December also! Which one are you doing in Phoenix? Good luck with the training!
Hey isnt that marathon in Jan?
I am doing the half in Vegas in Dec...
Rock & Roll right?
